Martin Luther King, Jr. Activities for Kindergarten and First Grade

Are you looking for Martin Luther King activities? If so, you’re in the right place! We have created an excellent MLK Day activity book for first-grade and kindergarten students. Use this mini-book for an interactive read-aloud in the weeks around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day or Black History Month.

Through this group reading activity, students will identify high-frequency sight words and use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words or phrases. They will complete sentences about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while reading about him.

Among the many benefits of using printable books, students will develop their language, expand their vocabulary, and strengthen their ability to use context clues to determine meaning from a text.

Alternative Uses For a Printable MLK Activity Book

We created this resource for circle time and reading lessons. In addition, we suggest these alternative uses to reinforce reading skills and new vocabulary words with your small group and full-class lessons:

  • Print on cardstock and assemble a small set of books for a reading center activity where students read the books to each other as partners.
  • Complete a booklet, print a copy for each student and have them read to an adult at home.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the color and black and white PDF versions. Print each student a copy of the booklet. Cut apart the pages and staple them into a booklet along the left side.
