Wrap Up Your Animal Adaptations Unit With a Research Project!

Are you looking for a fun (and challenging) way to have your students demonstrate their learning near the end of your unit on cool animal adaptations? If so, you’ve found the perfect tool for doing that… the research project and presentation! This student inquiry task puts your students in the drivers to do all of the heavy lifting and research it takes to teach a topic to a classmate through the presentation of their learning via informational report. This inquiry task takes students step by step through the research project, setting them up for an end-of-unit presentation.

Setting Up Your Animal Adaptations Projects

This resource includes:

  • a detailed description of the task
  • a graphic organiser for recording information
  • a planning sheet for the information report.

Students will participate in the following scenario to kick off their research and then use a variety of tools to research and record their learning about the adaptations held by a chosen animal.

Imagine you are a reporter for National Geographic magazine. You have been asked to write a
detailed information report to feature in a special edition of the magazine dedicated to animals
and their environments.

A series of graphic organisers and research tasks will guide the students through the stages needed to produce a complete information report.
